Wintergreen is part of the Ericaceae family of shrubs and trees that are characterised by their small and pointed leaves. It is found in the Northern Unites States of America, Canada and China.

The essential oil is extracted from the leaves by steam distillation to produce a clear oil with a balsamic and spicy-sweet odour that is deeply penetrating.

Uses in Natural Skin Care:

Wintergreen is not used in cosmetics or skin care preparations as it has potential irritating effects.
