Peppermint

(Mentha piperita)

      A member of the Labiatae family, Peppermint is a famous relative of Basil, Lavender, Thyme, Patchouli and many other aromatic plants. Steam distillation of the whole herb produces a clear essential oil with a bitter sweet, herbaceous and powerful aroma.

 

Uses in Natural Skin Care:

      Peppermint is probably best known as a dentifrice as a result of its widespread use in toothpastes, mouthwashes and breath fresheners. Apart from these applications, Peppermint can be used in creams, toners and lotions and is found in Wildcrafted Mandarin Toning Lotion and Wildcrafted Wild Herb Toner.

 

Traditional Medicinal Uses:

      In traditional forms of medicine, Peppermint is considered to be an excellent tonic for the metabolism, an appetite stimulant especially where the digestive system is sluggish and an effective hangover cure. It is also useful in relieving the symptoms of colds and ‘flu, headache, toothache and migraine.

      A small amount of Peppermint oil can be added to Massage oil Blends and will be beneficial in cases of depression, general weakness and debility and mental fatigue.

Contraindications and Cautions: Not to be used during Pregnancy or while Breast-Feeding.
