Niaouli Oil

(Melaleuca quinquinervia, formerly viridifolia)

      Niaouli is a member of the Myrtaceae family, being related to the Tea Trees (Melaleucas). It is a native of the southern Pacific tropical regions and is also found in northern Australia. Niaouli oil is extracted from the fresh leaves by distillation and then is purified to remove irritant constituents.

 

Uses in Natural Skin Care:

      Niaouli is tonic and antiseptic to the skin having a drying effect. However, because of its potential to cause irritation it is seldom used in cosmetic preparations.

 

Traditional Medicinal Uses:

      Niaouli has a history of use as a wound healer, drying weeping ulcers and stubborn skin infections . It is also considered a valuable remedy for sinusitis and colds with a soothing effect.
