Neroli

(Citrus aurantium - Orange Blossom)

      As already seen, this small tree is a member of the Rutaceae family. Whilst Sweet Orange oil is extracted from the peel of the fruit of Citrus aurantium, Neroli oil is extracted by steam distillation from the flower buds of the same plant. The oil is yellowish in colour and has a floral-citrusy aroma which is nothing short of heavenly and it takes one tonne of flowers rto obtain one kilogram of oil - hence, this is another of the more expensive essential oils.

      Neroli’s primary activity is directed to the nervous system and the skin and has been used as a remedy where symptoms arise due to stress and anxiety or depression. It is reputed to be effective in controlling palpitations, stimulates and calms digestion ad as a general tonic.

      As an ingredient of Massage Oil or Bath Oil blends Neroli has beneficial effects as an anti-depressant, helps relieve shock and grief and overcomes nervous tension of all kinds.
