KUNZEA (Kunzea ambigua - Tick Bush)

Scientific Name: Kunzea ambigua,

Common Names:  White cloud, White kunzea, Tick bish

Growth habit: Tall shrub

Flowers: Pink or white flowers.

Distribution: Kunzea grows in the coolest coastal areas of Australia (Southern New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania).

Uses in Natural Skin Care Products:
In skin care, Kunzea has been found to help serious skin conditions such as eczema and other skin rashes. The essential oil obtained from Kunzea is used in skin care products for its soothing and benefitial effects on the skin.

Traditional Medicinal Uses:
According to Ito et al., (2004) members of the Myrtaceae family, including Kunzea, are rich sources of bioactive terpenoids, tannins, flavonoids, and phloroglucinol derivatives, and have been used in traditional folk medicines for the treatment of diarrhoea, cold, inflammation and wounds (Ito et al., 2004). Kunzea ambigua considered useful in the treatment of:

• arthritis, rheumatism;
• muscular aches and pains;
• viral infactions such as influenza.

Aromatically, the essential oil of Kunzea blends well with other Australian natives and with most essential oils and can be used to relieve nervous tension, stress and even mild anxiety.
