Geranium (Rose) (Pelargonium  graveolens)

The Geraniaceae family is found world-wide and in a diverse range of habitats. However, the Mediterranean species of Geraniums tend to be the most adaptable and hardiest of all. All members of the family seem to contain a high volatile oil content in their leaves and stems, but only a few species produce a pleasant aromatic oil.

The essential oil of Rose Geranium, clear to light green in colour and highly aromatic, is extracted from the leaves and flowers by steam distillation. The fragrance is reminiscent of roses with a citrus-peppery tone.
