CEDARWOOD

(Cedrus atlantica - Moroccan Cedarwood; Cedrus virginiana - American Cedarwood)

Cedarwood is in the Conifer (Coniferae) Family along with other well-known trees such as Pine and Cypress. The oil is extracted from the wood by steam distillation, producing a clear, viscous oil with a dry, balsamic aroma.

Properties of Cedarwood Oil:

• Antiseptic,
• Astringent,
• Diuretic,
• Expectorant and
• Sedative.

 

Uses in Natural Skin Care Products:

Cedarwood is often used in skin care products for men as it is good for oily skin and to calm the skin after the abrasive effects sometimes caused by shaving. Cedarwood is particularly good for dandruff and acne as it is known to control excessive sebum production in the skin and scalp.

 

Uses in Traditional Medicine:

Cedarwood has been recorded as a remedy for Urinary Tract conditions such as cystitis and for bronchitis and catarrh.
